MISS DIG - 811
Calling before you dig is also the law! Every year approximately 25% of damage to underground infrastructure is the result of a homeowner. You may be responsible for this damage if you fail to contact MISS DIG before your project. Avoid costly mistakes and keep everyone safe by calling first.
Whether the job is bid or small call first and err on the side of safety! Learn more at www.missdig811.org.
What types of projects should I call about?
- Fences
- Mailbox posts
- Room additions
- Swimming pools
- Landscaping
- Decks and patios
- Trees or shrubs
- Swing sets
- Signs
- Fountains
- Tents
Does requesting utility markings cost money?
No! It's completely free to call and request that public facilities be marked! When you contact MISS DIG 811, the public facility companies are notified to mark the location of their underground lines. Public facilities are marked for FREE by facility company representatives known as Locators. The Locators paint lines and/or place flags to mark the approximate location of underground public lines.
Why so many flags? What do they mean? Can I remove them?
Do NOT remove the flags until the work is completed or after 21 days.
